The world is currently facing a significant, yet often overlooked, housing crisis, which has the potential to cause profound economic, social, and political shifts. It is crucial to prioritize housing studies, planning, and production within the development programs of every nation. Uncontrolled population growth, migration from rural to urban areas, and the deterioration of existing housing stock are the primary factors driving the urgent demand for more and improved housing. This trend is global and affects every community.
A United Nations study predicts that over the next thirty years, the global population will increase by 3.5 billion people. With an average of five people per household, this growth equates to the need for 600 million new homes over the next three decades, or about 20 million homes per year. This represents a monumental challenge. Housing science will play a central role in driving the innovations necessary to develop effective and sustainable solutions to this crisis.
