Copyrights and Licensing Policy
At the International Journal for Housing Science and Its Applications, copyright ownership of all published articles is retained by the authors. Each article is made openly accessible under the terms of the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license. This license ensures that anyone can freely access, download, and read the full text of the article without any barriers. Moreover, the work can be reused, quoted, or shared in any medium, as long as proper attribution is given to the original authors and the source is cited appropriately. This licensing policy is designed to enhance the visibility and impact of research, allowing maximum exposure while ensuring that authors receive full credit for their work.
Reproduction of Materials from Other Sources
When including previously published material (such as figures, tables, or text excerpts) from external sources, it is essential that authors obtain proper permission from the original copyright holder. This is necessary for any content that does not belong to the public domain or for which the author does not hold the copyright. Typically, the copyright holder is the original publisher of the material. Authors should refer to the copyright imprint of the specific publication to identify the responsible copyright holder and ensure they have received the appropriate permissions before submitting their manuscript.
Permission is required in the following cases:
- If the author’s own work was previously published by a different publisher, and the author did not retain the copyright.
- For significant excerpts from anyone’s work, regardless of the length or nature of the content.
- For tables, charts, schemes, and illustrations that are reused with minor alterations or without significant changes.
- Photographs where the author does not hold the copyright.
Permission is not required in these situations:
- If the authors recreate a table using data that has been previously published, as long as the source of the data is properly cited (e.g., “Data from…” or “Adapted from…”).
- Short excerpts or quotations considered “fair use” do not require explicit permission.
- Graphs, charts, and other visual elements that have been significantly redrawn and modified beyond recognition by the authors.
How to Obtain Permissions
To avoid publication delays, authors are encouraged to begin the process of obtaining copyright permissions early in the manuscript preparation phase. If there is any uncertainty regarding the need for permission, it is advisable to seek it. The International Journal for Housing Science and Its Applications cannot proceed with publishing any material from external sources without the proper permissions.
In cases where the copyright holder provides instructions on how the reproduced material should be acknowledged, authors should follow those guidelines. Otherwise, the following standard acknowledgment should be included:
“Reproduced with permission from [Author], [Book/Journal Title], published by [Publisher], [Year].”
This citation should be placed at the end of the caption for any reproduced figures, tables, or schemes.
